As one walks into Crossfit Gurgaon Box, one gets a feeling of a very colourful hardware store/garage- very rustic and hardcore in design yet appealing to a person looking for adventure in fitness.I had heard that Crossfit is like a cult and the community is very close knit. I discovered during my experience why it is so.
CrossFit is a fitness regimen developed by Greg Glassman launched in 2000 in the USA.
Crossfit tied up with Reebok to conduct Crossfit Games world over a few years later. With constantly varied, high-intensity functional movements, CrossFit is a training philosophy that coaches to improve their physical well-being and cardiovascular fitness in a hardcore yet accepting and encouraging environment.
CrossFit movements reflect aspects of gymnastics, weightlifting, running, rowing and more. These are the core movements of life and target all round fitness.
Himanshu the co owner of CrossFit Gurgaon Box says that a person is as fit as she/he is proficient in each of ten general physical skills: cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, agility, balance, coordination, and accuracy. In CrossFit, each day, the workout tests a different part of your functional aspect; strength or conditioning, not specializing in one particular thing, but rather with the goal of building a body that’s capable of practically anything and everything.CrossFit is extremely different from a commercial gym…because you won’t find any ellipticals, weight machines or Zumba classes here!
Who is it for?
According to Himanshu, this program is designed for all, making it perfectly applicable for any committed individual, regardless of experience. They scale load and intensity; but don’t change programs.(But if you are looking for specific goals of Body building, Power-lifting etc, then this is not for you since CrossFit does not specialise.)
It’s also not for Solo trainers – Some people love to work out alone. Cross fit is group training, which means you won’t have that opportunity to get your stuff done on your own.
CrossFit attracts a certain type of persons....people who push themselves hard, due to the nature of competition, the motivating atmosphere, many people in CrossFit often push themselves beyond their personal limitations
So is it Dangerous?
In the wrong situations, with the wrong coaches, and a person with the wrong attitude, CrossFit can be very dangerous.During a CrossFit workout, it’s REALLY easy to sacrifice form in exchange for finishing the workout quicker. If you don’t have somebody spotting you or telling you to keep your form correct, then you’re in trouble. (Not so In CrossFit Gurgaon, coz you have an expert supervising ad spearheading sessions!)

What's a CrossFit Class look like?
A typical class will have a
· Warm-up session.
· Revision of skill
· Workout of the Day.
· Cool Down.
One should do a crossfit workout 3-4 days a week to get the best benefits.
I must admit, I felt overwhelmed with the kind of environment the Crossfit gym has to offer and after going through the challenges(at the launch) , it can safely be said that though it is functional in nature yet one has to be self aware of form and posture while performing the exercises to avoid any injury.

Himanshu- is an Engineer from IIT who while working in Chile was introduced to Crossfit by his colleague and when he returned to India he was lucky to find a Crossfit gym in Gurgaon.
Eventually his passion for Crossfit made him open his own “Crossfit Stride” in Gurgaon followed by the re-launching of Crossfit Gurgaon.
